Computer Services
During your time at GCNS you are likely to find the need to use a computer. Our facilities offer almost 600 networked computers/laptops for your use. On enrolment you’ll be allocated a unique network login account which will give you access to the following from any student PC or laptop on the campus:
- Private network folder for storing course work
- Shared course network area
- Printing facilities
- Internet
- Online course materials via the virtual learning environment
- Network software
With Internet access you will be able to tap the resources of the Web. For example, the College website (www.gcns.ac.uk) contains course specific information and details of all College facilities. An increasing percentage of course material is now held online and is accessible from a normal web browser.
Whatever your computing needs are, you will find the student computers equipped with word processing, spreadsheet, presentation, database, and internet browsing packages. Pre-paid printing facilities are also available in the open-access areas. Some classrooms also contain computers with specialised course software. A wireless network is available throughout the College while the Thistle Resource Centre has bookable wireless laptops. Those students staying in the Hall of Residence can use their own laptops to connect to a dedicated wireless networking providing access to the internet.
For the Security of all students, the use of all computing equipment within the College is subject to conditions detailed in our ‘Use of Information Technology and Network Resources policy’.
