Students from the Supported Learning Section designed and built a Pirate themed entry and were delighted to be awarded a SILVER MEDAL from the Scottish Horticultural Society.

Christine Mailley, class lecturer said, “Working with the CK Grows project over the past 6 months gave us confidence to take our green fingers one step further. We decided to enter into the Pallet Garden Competition and began by deciding on a theme for our garden. Being from Glasgow College of Nautical Studies we decided on 'Pirates'. We sourced items to help decorate our garden from local charity shops, around the college and also made ornamental creatures from modelling clay.”

The students planned the garden design in the college workroom and then built the garden on the Thursday prior to the Show at The Royal Highland Centre and they all worked extremely hard developing and laying out their pallet garden.

“We grew some plants from seed and were also sponsored by IKEA who kindly donated cacti plants. The finished garden looked amazing and all the students and staff involved were very pleased with the result.”
