School of Nautical Studies

The School of Nautical Studies offers the full range of Trainee and Deck Officer Certificate programmes, and – in addition to enrolling approximately one third of all UK Trainees – further demand is evident. The school offers mainstream UK and overseas cadet courses and monitors the new ‘Scottish Professional Diploma in Marine Operations’, which was introduced in the session of 2006-07. This was developed in response to the introduction of the Foundation degreescheme in England, and now has full MNTB/MCA approval. The Diploma programme combines a fast-track HND in Nautical Science with Professional Development Awards aimed at developing management and business skills and workbased learning, which typically attracts Higher and A-level entry students.

The Faculty’s overseas partnership with AMET (India) is expanding: our International Business Manager continues to develop overseas relations with a view to widening the international portfolio, and the Faculty maintains close links with industry, government and leading bodies to ensure the effectiveness of all the courses we offer.
